Job Overview
Provide administrative and inter-personal support to help Grace Kids run smoothly and
effectively.

Background
Grace Church Seattle (www.graceseattle.org) is a church seeking to reach the city of Seattle. A significant component of our congregational life involves passing our faith along to the next generation. At the same time, we want our church to be a place that is accessible and hospitable to those who are not Christians. For these reasons, we want Grace Kids to be a place where our own children are nurtured in the faith and a place where children outside the faith can come and learn about the gospel and be welcomed into the congregation.

Qualifications
  • Christian with a love for the church and its children and a desire to help further the church’s mission.
  • An ability to interact well with parents, volunteers, and children. An ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, leadership, volunteers, and congregants.
  • Strong attention to detail. Adept with online planning tools and email communication.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with, recruit, schedule, and coordinate volunteers.
  • Ability to think on your feet and respond to last-minute volunteer cancellations.

Responsibilities
Sunday Morning Culture Shaper
The Ministry Coordinator will be a key player responsible for helping foster a warm,
welcoming, hospitable, and safe culture for children and their families. This ethos should
be extended to both our congregation and visitors. The Coordinator will be the Sunday
morning “Quarterback”.

In this capacity, the Coordinator will:

  • Be a central presence on Sunday morning for welcoming families, answering questions, assisting volunteers, and directing traffic.
  • Maintain and adjust appropriate signage, check-in/check-out, and other safety procedures in support of the ministry philosophy and our written Child Protection Policy.
  • Provide clear, regular, and timely communications via emails, parent forums, etc.
  • Oversee the paid Nursery Host.
  • Assist in the classroom as needed.
  • Ensure curricula are available at church for each class.

Ministry Facilitator
The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring people, materials, and supplies are in
place for both classroom and nursery environments.

In this capacity, the Coordinator will:

  • Maintain volunteer schedule for Grace Kids classes, nursery, and special events (e.g. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve service, and bi-annual church-wide retreat).
  • Help recruit lay teachers and caregivers.
  • Oversee the budget for Grace Kids until Pastor of Children, Youth, and Families is hired (target date is this summer).
  • Provide logistical support for community Easter Egg hunt and annual Christmas Pageant.
  • Ensure all required background checks are performed on volunteers and paid workers (see Child Protection Policy).
  • Ensure all payments are made to paid nursery workers.

Expectations
• Self-starting with an ability to be energized by vision and direction of church.
• Ability to sustain effective scheduling procedures.
• Maintain a positive community environment.

Hours, pay, etc.
• 15-20 hours per week (6 hours on Sunday, ~ 7:30am-1:30pm; office hours to include
mid-day staff meetings on Tuesday; rest of time is flexible).
• Reports to Senior Pastor; will report to Pastor of Children, Youth & Families once
position is filled
• Annual Children’s Ministry Budget (materials, nursery workers, etc.).
